Vineyard hills and machines for wine
The Asti economy revolves around wine: Barbera d’Asti, Moscato d’Asti and sparkling wine, with the underground cathedrals of Canelli recognised by UNESCO. Alongside the wineries an industry has grown that builds machines for bottling and processing wine, while the hills produce truffles and Robiola di Roccaverano cheese.
Here software helps on two fronts. In the winery it holds together grape deliveries, tanks, bottling and registers; for machinery makers it manages configurations, spare parts and service calls at customers who are often abroad.
Many wineries are family businesses, with a handful of people who handle everything. Simple software that remembers deadlines and documents and prepares distributor orders frees up time during harvest, when every hour in the vineyard is worth more than one spent in the office.
